Cole Leonard from Virginia FFA topped the Junior Dairy Management Contest, taking home the $1000 scholarship. The contest encompasses judging, linear scoring, feed identification, business and finance management, and practical knowledge on topics like reproduction. The top five individuals are then interviewed and that score is added to their tallies. Undoubtedly, the years Cole spent dairy judging, competing in dairy bowl and working on the farm contributed to his success in a contest that combines a variety of dairy skills.

He teamed up with his younger sister, Isabelle, who placed second, and Jake McCall who took home fifth, to win the FFA division, outpacing nine other teams in the contest.

In the 4-H division, New York 4-H rose to the top, with Allison Herrick and Casey Porter leading their New York team with third and fourth individual honors. The New York team bested two Michigan 4-H teams in second and third in the 8-team pool.

Dairy Judging
In the dairy judging contests, Ohio 4-H won with three of the top five individuals: Hannah Dye, high individual; Ella Jackson (2nd); Tanner Topp (4th) and Kaleb Kliner. Closing out the top individuals were Caleb Vinkemeier of Minnesota 4-H in third and Daniel Cooper from Kentucky 4-H in fifth. Neighboring state, Kentucky, placed second as a team, followed by Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania 4-H.

Virginia FFA also had a good day judging, topping the FFA contest, led by 2nd High Individual, Cole Leonard. They outscored Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Delaware. Kentucky FFA had the High Individual in the contest, Jake Whitely. The top five individuals in the FFA contest hailed from 5 different states: Madison Cook, Delaware (3rd); Chloey Earnes, Indiana (4th); and Clayton Himmelberger, Pennsylvania (5th).

In the Junior College Division, Morrisville State College (N.Y.) had three of the top five individuals and easily topped the contest. High Individuals were Andrew Vaz, Modesto Junior College (Calif.); Drew Hill, Morrisville; Evan Castrogiovanni, Morrisville; Logan Martin, Morrisville; and Tyler Hymers, SUNY Cobleskill. Rounding out the top teams were SUNY Cobleskill, Modesto Junior College, Kaskaskia College (Ill.) and Alfred State (N.Y.)
In the tightest contest of the night, one point separated border states of Minnesota and Wisconsin in the collegiate contest. University of Minnesota was victorious, led my Mary Lievenstein, who placed second individually. Minnesota's team also included Michael Schmitt, Andrew Hetke and Nicholas Reps. Teammates Cassie Endres and Laura Finley placed third and fourth respectively, to pull the University of Wisconsin-Madison ahead of Virginia Tech, Cornell and Penn State. The overall High Individual in the college contest went to Megan Vaill from Cornell University.
